Step 1

Download and install Vista Boot Logo Generator 1.2. This is the program you will use to create your boot logo. Once it has fully downloaded, follow the screens to install.

Step 2

Run Vista Boot Logo Generator 1.2 as administrator. To run as administrator, right-click on the program logo and choose ';Run as administrator'; from the menu of options that comes up.

Step 3

Upload two copies of the same image into the Vista Boot Logo Generator. The images should be 24-bit color Bitmap images. One copy file must be 800-by-600 pixels and the other 1024-by-768 pixels. Once the files are uploaded, save the Vista Boot Logo Generator output file to your desktop.

Step 4

Take ownership of the file. Open the ';Start'; menu. In the box where it says ';Start search,'; type in ';cmd'; and hit ';Enter.'; This will pull up a small screen with a C:\ prompt. Hitting ';Ctrl+Shift+Enter'; will pull up a full-screen C:\ prompt. Type ';takeown/fC:\Windows\System32\en-US\winl?next to the prompt and hit ';Enter.'; This will bring up another prompt. Now type, cacls C:\Windows\System32\en-US\winload.ex.mui /G geek:F. Click ';Enter.';

Step 5

Copy the file that you created with the Vista Boot Logo Generator to ';C:\windows\system32\en-US\directory.'; Choose ';Yes'; when asked if you want to overwrite the file.

Step 6

Open the ';Start'; menu and type ';msconfig'; into the box that says ';Start search.'; This will open the ';System Configuration'; window. Click on the ';Boot'; tab. Click in the box next to ';No GUI boot'; and click ';OK.';

Step 7

Reboot your computer. The changes you have made should take effect, and your custom Vista boot logo will now show up.
