Ubuntu boot up screen is blank (help)?

when you boot up a pc (ubuntu) you should see a boot up screen like xp with the bar with the orange block sliding back and forth until the computer is loaded, after the login screen comes up, right. well my problem is instead of the bar thing i'm left with a black screen (blank) then 30 seconds later i get the login screen. i as you for help/expertise to try and help me how to get this screen. i would very much appreciate it =] also seeing as your reading this far how can i change the boarder of my windows and download some? and the boarder being the out side of the window (in xp its blue with the red x button and osx it's gray) thanks =]Ubuntu boot up screen is blank (help)?
That boot up screen is called the usplash. It's probably a problem with your graphics card, but I'm not sure. Did you edit your /boot/grub/ment.lst ? If so, you may have accidentally removed the code that loads it.

For your second question, download a theme like this one

http://art.gnome.org/download/themes/met

then open up the theme manager (System%26gt;Preferences%26gt;Theme)

and drag the file from your desktop to the theme window. I've never tried, but I think that's how you do it.

Good luck!Ubuntu boot up screen is blank (help)?
Preferences%26gt;Appearance change the theme.

If your graphics card supports compiz fusion then use it. Also get emerald theme manager, its themes are pretty cool!

Not sure how to fix the first problem sorry.
