How to start my PC in 1280 by 1024 screen resolution ?it boots well but after windows XP loads Monitor shuts?

my computer was recently formatted %26amp; no sound or graphic driver is installed in it.when i changed the screen resolution from 800 by 600 pixels to 1280 by 1024 pixels! the Monitor shuts down with orange light from green light when i restarted my pc it booted but after windows xp loading the moniter again changed to same position with keyboard,mouse %26amp; CPU working but the moniter do not shuts down.

plz give me the way to fix this problem? i can access DOS you can also tell me the the way to access the display properties?

use the video port on your mother board instead of the one on your graphics card..
