Why does my Kubuntu install not recognise my screen resolution changes.?

I'm using Kubuntu 9.04. I have a Sempron 2800 processor, 1gb ram and a Radeon 9600 pro graphics card. When I started it up the resolution was at 1600 x something or other. I went into system settings %26gt; administration %26gt; display and changed it to 1200 x something. But whenever I boot up it still opens at 1600 x something until I access system settings %26gt; administration %26gt; display, when I access that it suddenly remembers my settings and changes the resolution back.

How come my saved resolution is not being implemented at bootup? Why does my Kubuntu install not recognise my screen resolution changes.?
There is NO manufacturer's software for the card under Linux. Try setting it as the root user. It may be that your account is reading the superuser settings. Why does my Kubuntu install not recognise my screen resolution changes.?
You might try making the resolution change through the Radeon software that came with the card. I had that issue once before. I forget the name of the software, but that is probably the reason that is happening.
because KDE is unstable! stick with ubuntu.
