Formating with windows xp How do i get the CD to open?

I'm trying to format my hard drive. But when i put the cd in my hard drive and restart it, the computer comes on as it normally would. What do i press at the start up screen to make the disk boot? I read that you have to enter the setup when the computer first comes on and change the boot order to the cd rom drive. I did that..... but nothing. Unless i did it wrong. Can someone also tell me how to do that Please!!Formating with windows xp How do i get the CD to open?
If you burnt the CD and it is not in proper format then the CD is no good. The key that you have to push varies by computer make. Type what it says when you first start your computer, eg. F2. It's usually located on the bottom when you first start your computer and this time choose the option for going to boot sequence; it should say boot something. Then use your keyboard to scroll to the CD drive and hit enter. Other than that you can try opening the CD after you start up windows if its a cd not formatted properly, it works too most of the time.
